Judith McCombs

This is a small, sedimentary stone, grey-white, with sheltering hollows where some part wore away, and some life lived.

I found the stone in a cairn outside a B & B in Stratford, Ontario.

It was, and is, warm and comforting in my hand–a marker of what breaks away, what shelters and endures.

Judith McCombs grew up on the road, in almost all the states, in a geodetic surveyor’s family.
